On Sunday
13 May we welcomed children from all over Northampton to
the second annual Be a Chorister for a Day event
at St Matthew’s. The day is intended to provide children
and their families with an idea of what being in a
church choir is all about and provide a hands-on
experience to find out!
Over the course of the day participants learned,
rehearsed and performed music with the choir, had a
chance to try on some robes and had a great deal of fun.
The two sides of the choir, Decani and
Cantoris, were
pitted
against one another in a highly competitive game of
rounders on the church green before relaxing with a
drink.
Many parents and supporters attended Evensong, with the
augmented choir giving an excellent account of
themselves in performances of music by Stanford and
Wesley. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves and some
have now joined the choir on a permanent basis.
There will be another Be a Chorister for a Day
event in 2013, but the
Director of
Music is always pleased to hear of potential
recruits to the choir. Details what the choir does and
of how to join can be found
here.
The Director of Music, Thomas Moore, is
looking to recruit BOYS from school year 4
to 7 and GIRLS from school year 5 upwards
who are keen to sing and eager to learn.
