On
Thursday 20 December, thirty intrepid singers from St
Matthew's Choir and Congregation set out to sing carols
around the Parish. On a less than pleasant evening
weather-wise we departed the Parish Centre, carol books
clutched tightly in hand, and strode out into the night.
Stopping four times on our travels, we sang over twenty
carols outside people's homes and in front of the shops
on Kingsley Park Terrace. Many people came out from
their houses to hear us and enjoy the music and we were
glad to receive gifts, not of Gold, Frankincense or
Myrrh, but of Quality Street and Jelly Babies.
The St Matthew's Choristers did brilliantly collecting
money and in a relatively short space of time we raised
£55 for church funds. After singing some carols around
the Christmas tree in church, we returned to the Parish
Centre for some mulled wine, sausage rolls and mince
pies.
All who came to sing certainly enjoyed themselves, as we
took a little bit of the St Matthew's Christmas spirit
into the parts of the Parish we visited. We'll do it
again next year!
