Well done
to everyone at St Matthew’s who helped in any way to
make the 2023 Summer Fete on Saturday 1 July the most
successful so far.
With last minute donations still trickling in it looks
like we may hit the £4,000 mark. That’s a real
achievement considering our family fun day coincided
with the council-sponsored Northampton Festival on the
Racecourse. And it means we raised £300 more than last
year at a time of financial squeeze.
People were queueing to get in – some even arrived two
hours before the fete opened and tried to buy items from
our bric-a-brac stall, and the sunshine certainly
helped.
The Folk Ensemble from Northampton School for Boys
provided a wonderful afternoon of music, while our
Noah’s Ark Trail attracted many families with children
to the church itself. Many hadn’t been inside before and
were amazed by its beauty.
It’s a pity the Fire Brigade team couldn’t stay longer
due to an emergency, but we hope they’ll be back next
year.
All in all, it was a fun afternoon and we achieved our
greatest goal – bringing the community together and
showing them everything St Matthew’s proudly has to
offer.
The Director of Music, Thomas Moore, is
looking to recruit BOYS from school year 4
to 7 and GIRLS from school year 5 upwards
who are keen to sing and eager to learn.
