Northampton Philharmonic Choir - The Armed Man : A Mass for Peace - Karl Jenkins

Join the NPC for a memorable evening as they present The Armed Man : A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins. Commissioned in 1999 by the Royal Armouries Museum to commemorate the Millennium and its move to Leeds, The Armed Man is dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. The work premiered on 25 April 2000 at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Jenkins' powerful “mass for peace” weaves together the traditional Catholic Mass with poetry, the Islamic call to prayer, and the haunting French folk melody L'homme armé. From martial processions to moments of deep reflection, it traces conflict's devastation and offers a vision of reconciliation and hope-making it one of the most moving and frequently performed modern choral works.
