News & Events - 2025 Summer Fete

Saturday 5 July 2025

The sun shone, the vicar got soaked in the stocks, and we raised £4,254.98. That's a new record for takings at St Matthew's Church summer fete.

Gates were officially opened at 1pm by the ever-joyful grinch Bryan Wallis. But people had already started queuing up to 30 minutes beforehand to enjoy one of Bryan's witty insults, before surging towards our massive bric-a-brac stall for an early bargain.

Scout leader Stuart Batty re-introduced our historic coconut shy and brought gales of laughter and merriment with his crockery smashing stall.

A new hook-a-duck water game proved a huge hit with toddlers, along with our fun kiddies' Noah's Trail inside the church.

The £100 cash first prize saw frenzied raffle ticket buying throughout the afternoon.

The SLT Academy of Irish Dance put on a magical display of reels and jigs, while the Raggle Taggle folk trio returned with two sets of popular songs. DJ Dave 'Strongbow' Strong kept the hits flowing throughout.

The Northampton and District Model Railway Club attracted scores with their displays.

Our beer tent and barbecue both sold out while the cake stall ladies were inundated. Likewise, the Café Guides Vintage Tea room was rammed.

There were plenty of stalls and games to keep everybody who came entertained throughout the afternoon.

Strongman trainer Danny was overjoyed with the response to his weightlifting challenge.

BB's bouncy castle provided a Paw Patrol castle which was popular with the little'uns. And our plant stall did a roaring trade.

The Community Police brought along a patrol car, their sirens competing with the joyful jingles from Mario's Ice Cream van.

A special mention must go to Philip Bricher who performed two organ recitals for those inside the church. This was another splendid community event which brought the people of Kingsley flocking to our church and grounds. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.
